CINEMA – It’s a beautiful day for Mylène Farmer. While the singer recently announced to embark, in 2023, on a new tour through France, the name of the latter was confirmed, this Thursday, June 24, as part of the list of nine jurors for the 2021 edition. of the Cannes Film Festival.

From July 6 to 17, the interpreter of “Pourvu leur sont Douces” will have the mission, alongside Mati Diop, Bong Joon-Ho, Spike Lee and Maggie Gyllenhaal, to decide between the filmmakers in official competition, including Nanni Moretti for “Tre Piani”, Jacques Audiard and his “Olympiades”, or even Mia Hansen-Love (“Bergman Island”) and Julia Ducournau (“Titane”).

The presence of Mylène Farmer within the jury may be surprising. Known for being the French singer to have sold the most records since the 1980s, she is however not the first musician to access this function. In 2016, Vanessa Paradis was. A year earlier, it was Rokia Traoré. MC Solaar was sworn under the presidency of Martin Scorsese in 1998.

What is more, the native of Quebec is “inseparable from the world of image and cinema which has always fascinated her”, especially through her clips, the festival organizers told AFP.
