Rare Rembrandt hung unnoticed for centuries in noble palazzi in Rome | show

In 2016 it blew The Adoration of the Magi at the open window of an easel. The owner, a descendant of a noble family in Rome, brought the damaged painting to Antonella di Francesco for restoration. Di Francesco soon realized that she had something special in her hands. “Once in my studio I enter into a dialogue with the painting,” says the restorer on the phone. “The longer I observe it, the more details stand out to me; the perfect interplay between the paper and the ink above and the canvas below, the technique. I became more and more convinced that it is a Rembrandt.”
