Barcelona – Madrid for 7 euros. The third high-speed train brand was launched in Spain

Spanish state railways use dynamic pricing on the route, a larger suitcase is available at an additional cost.

From today, passengers wishing to take the high-speed train between Barcelona and Madrid can choose from three different types of trains. Month after start Ouigo Spain a high-speed unit under the Avlo brand set off on the busiest route in Spain. However, this is not a new carrier, but a low-cost brand of state railways Renfe.

Passengers and the connection offer will thus expand again for passengers. Before the competition started, Renfe usually traveled on this route at prices of over 100 euros, so many people chose a cheaper plane. The arrival of the daughter of the French Railways has already slightly reduced prices.

Avlo starts marketing with a price of 7 euros, so in the case of the entire distance between Barcelona and Madrid, cheap tickets are rather the exception. The most common price is around 15-30 euros when buying a few weeks in advance. The company has fully switched to the standard model from low-cost airlines. For the basic price, the passenger receives only the transport itself, everything else is for an additional fee. Larger suitcase for 10 euros, choice of seat for 8 euros.

Four pairs of trains a day

So far, Avlo will run between the two cities four times a day, the last evening connection from Madrid and the first morning from the coast ends resp. begins in Figueres. Prices start at 7 euros for each trip. The carrier uses dynamic pricing, where the price changes according to how many seats are sold. Children under 14 will travel for a fixed price of 5 euros.

Avlo was originally scheduled to be released last April, but the start was delayed by a coronavirus pandemic. Spanish state railways under the Avlo brand use Talgo 112 sets. There are a fifth more seats in them than in the original version. In total, the train will carry 438 passengers. The carrier also uses information in marketing that trains run on electricity from fully renewable sources. Renfe wants to attract more passengers to high-speed trains with a low-cost brand.

Next year, Ilsa, a joint project of the Italian state railways Trenitalia and Air Nostrum, has appeared on the lines in Spain.
