Weimar / Berlin (MH) – The Regensburg-born conductor Andreas Wolf becomes 1st Kapellmeister of the German National Theater (DNT) and the Staatskapelle Weimar. The 53-year-old will take over the position at the beginning of the 2021/22 season, the house announced on Wednesday. He succeeds the American Stefan Lano, who held the position until summer 2020.

With Wolf, the DNT welcomes “an experienced and proven high-ranking conductor and musician”, said General Director Hasko Weber. “Andreas Wolf made music through the application process convincingly with a personable demeanor and well-founded, detailed rehearsal work,” explained Dominik Beykirch, chief conductor of the music theater at DNT Weimar.
After his first positions in Wuppertal and Münster, Wolf had engagements at the Kassel State Theater, the Hanover State Opera and the Saarbrücken State Theater. From 2013 to 2021 he worked at the Lübeck Theater as 1st Kapellmeister and Deputy GMD and from 2017 to 2019 as Acting GMD.
