Cash is becoming significantly less important in Switzerland


Despite the coronavirus, most transactions in Switzerland are still made with cash. In terms of value, however, the debit card has replaced cash as the most important means of payment. A survey by the Swiss National Bank (SNB) shows further changes in payment behavior.

Almost all Swiss people still have a certain amount of cash in their wallet or at home in order to use it for everyday expenses.

Cash is used less and less in financial transactions, while credit and debit cards or payment apps are being used more and more often. The results of the latest payment survey conducted by the Swiss National Bank (SNB) show how far these changes in behavior go.
