“But a lot has to fit for that: my performance, my fitness, the plans of the new national coach Hansi Flick. What I can say: I’m incredibly proud to play for Germany,” added Hummels, who two years after his retirement from national coach Joachim Löw had been retrieved.
Age not a problem
The 32-year-old doesn’t see his age as an obstacle. With the 36-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo you can see what is possible. He also referred to Italy’s 36-year-old defense chief Giorgio Chiellini. He could identify with the “way in which he embodies the pride of being allowed to play for his country,” said Hummels. He said he wanted to “play at the highest level for a few more years in any case.” He doesn’t know if there will be another tournament. “But it’s good to see that nothing is ruled out,” said Hummels.
The former Bayern professional considers the future national coach Flick to be “a very good solution”. Flick had already proven himself as assistant to head coach Löw in the DFB selection and “did an incredible job” in Munich.
