Why is Garuda Banned from Flying to Hong Kong, What’s Up?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – State-owned airline Garuda Indonesia is prohibited from landing in Hong Kong until July 5. This prohibition is in line with the presence of seven new imported Covid-19 cases in the Chinese Administrative Country.

Even though as of Wednesday (23/6), Hong Kong has not recorded new local Covid-19 infections, so there are still 11,896 people.

According to China Daily HK, Monday (22/6/2021), the latest patients included six women from Indonesia and a 51-year-old man with no clear travel history.

According to the Chinese Center for Health Protection, none of them showed symptoms.

However, China’s Center for Health Protection said passenger flights from Jakarta operated by Garuda Indonesia in Hong Kong were prohibited from landing from June 22 to July 5.

The Ministry of Health and Hong Kong made the decision after four passengers of Garuda Indonesia GA 876 tested positive for the virus last Sunday, in Hong Kong, a flight from Jakarta.

President Director of PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk (GIAA), Irfan Setiaputra confirmed this. Garuda Indonesia is prohibited from bringing passengers to Hong Kong until July 5.

“It is forbidden to carry passengers,” he told CNBC Indonesia via text message, Tuesday (23/6/2021).

“They tested positive when they landed, even though the test in Jakarta was negative,” he added.
