Stop Using Genose for Travel Terms

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Molecular biologist Ahmad Rusdan Handoyo Utomo criticized the government regarding the use of the SARS-C0V-2 corona virus detection tool, GeNose C19 as a condition for traveling in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. GeNose, one of which is available at the train station.

According to Ahmad, the government must stop preventing transmission of the corona virus using GeNose before the developer of the tool announces the results of clinical trials and validation evidence from at least three universities in Indonesia.

Please, stop using Genose for trip verification, return to the standard standard test, unless there is evidence of Genose validation from at least three independent campuses,” Ahmad said, quoted from his social media account, Tuesday (22/6).

Ahmad’s teasing then got a response from many Twitter users. According to netizens, it is true that many irresponsible people take advantage of Genose’s ‘weakness’ to be able to travel without performing an antigen swab test.

Epidemiologist from the Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia (FKM-UI) Pandu Riono also opposes the use of the domestically made corona detection device.

Pandu prohibited the use of the tool as a Covid-19 screening before lectures were held face-to-face.

Avoid using unvalidated Covid-19 screening tools, for travellers, meetings, offices, hotel visitors, educational activities such as schools and colleges, sporting events, concerts and so on. Stop using Genose, “said Pandu through his teasing, Monday (21/6).

Pandu’s tweet was in response to the proposal from the Indonesian State University Chancellor’s Council (MRPTNI) that all students carry out Covid-19 checks using GeNose before face-to-face lectures are held in the 2021/2022 school year.

Chairman of the MRPTN Jamal Wiwoho said face-to-face learning (PTM) on campus must be carried out on a gradual and conditional principle. And the genose examination is one form of the conditional approach.

Contacted separately, the GeNose C19 development team said the development of the GeNose is still ongoing and research continues to be carried out by a number of experts. The GeNose C19 development process is heading to the validation stage.

GeNose C19’s Public Relations Coordinator, Gilang Desti, said that currently his party has prepared a draft, submitted it and followed the external validation test process or involved a number of parties.

“Scientifically, the research team has prepared a draft, submitted it, followed the review process. [namun] The steps are gradual and not instant,” Gilang told CNNIndonesia.com via short message, Tuesday (22/6).
