Departmental elections. In Rennes, ecologists and socialists neck and neck, and in the countryside

The first round of departmental elections sees the rise of the environmental vote in Ille-et-Vilaine. In Rennes, 4 out of 6 cantons will see a duel between the Socialist Party and Europe Ecology the Greens. The duel is particularly close in the canton of Rennes 3.

The green vote made a breakthrough in particular in Ille-et-Vilaine, with three pairs leading in the 27 cantons of the department.

In the canton of Rennes 3, which includes the southern districts such as Pottery, Blosne and Chantepie, environmentalists and the PS are neck and neck after this first round of departmental elections. 21 voices separate them. The duo Nicolas Perrin and Jeanne Larue (EELV) collected 30.19% of the votes while the PS led by Frédéric Bourcier and Béatrice Hakni-Robin, 30.44%.

We hope it’s time for change, time for ecology

Nicolas Perrin, EELV candidate – Canton of Rennes 3

The day after the election, it is the return of the campaign on the ground. For EELV, it will be necessary to confirm the test. Nicolas Perrin and Jeanne Larue tow, especially at the Pottery shopping center. They want to display their presence more than ever. “This result is good news but must be taken with a grain of salt because the abstention was extremely strong”, notes Nicolas Perrin.

Ecology could finally find its place within the departmental council, a necessity: “It seems to me that ecology is the meaning of history. We have no choice. You see like me every week the bad news related to the climate and the environment. The awareness is of stronger and stronger. ”

Victory, they believe in it with the desire to make a difference with the previous term of office, particularly on themes such as child protection. “The situation is dramatic. We must take care of our children. We will strengthen the effects and we will take care of host families, unfortunately fewer and fewer in our department.” Nicolas Perrin will seek funding by redirecting the budgets devoted to roads and road bypasses. It also wants to guarantee a social minimum from the age of 18 for the most precarious, and further develop the culture of soft mobility.

We must always remember what a community is, what their skills are, what it brings on a daily basis.

Béatrice Hakni-Robin, PS candidate – Canton of Rennes 3

Place du Landrel, the PS knocks at the doors of the inhabitants. “If we don’t go and see people directly, they won’t feel invited to go and vote”, Béatrice Hakni-Robin increasingly observes.

With Frédéric Bourcier, they were already elected in 2015 and are running for a new mandate. Mandates, their adversaries reproach them for having too many. Not a problem for them, on the contrary. “We are close to the inhabitants through our other functions, which for some can be seen as shortcomings but which we see as assets in our ability to mobilize the various public policies so that housing improves, that schools and colleges are renovated. ”

20 million euros have been devoted to housing in the district with 1,500 new social housing units and 1,500 renovated (part of which by the social landlord).

The pair is optimistic. “The difference will be our mobilization, it will be the gathering, the confidence that we inspire. We are experienced elected officials. We have a background in this neighborhood that we have helped to transform a lot.”
