Zelensky and Akhmetov have strained relations due to the shutdown of thermal power plants and tax reform

Note that in February, the Ukrainian power system was on the verge of a system failure and rolling blackouts. The warehouses of TPPs and CHPPs were left with minimal coal reserves. DTEK, on the other hand, sent some of its power units for emergency repairs.

One of the versions: TPPs deliberately did not replenish coal reserves and suspended the work of the blocks in order to persuade the authorities to make concessions on the issue of prices and tariffs. Akhmetov denied this, but at Bankova Street they regarded such actions as “an unfriendly move.”

In addition, in April, on the initiative of Bankova, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to replenish the budget through tax reform… This reform provides for an increase in the rent for the extraction of iron ore, of which more than half is mined by the Metinvest holding.

They explained to Akhmetov that changing the rules of the game on the go, depending on the market conditions, is “bad form.” But at the same time, they say that there is no tension between the shareholders of Metinvest and the authorities.

“There is no need to look for, as they say, a black cat in a dark room. There are no tensions with either the president or the Cabinet. Of course, any government wants to receive more taxes. tax. I think that there will be a compromise on rates, the search for a compromise is underway, “- explained the interlocutor from Akhmetov’s entourage.

The president also agrees with this. According to one of the sources, the rent will go up, but the decision will be a compromise.
