Musician and activist who is also a friend of Steven, Melanie Subono, revealed the musician died after battling the COVID-19 virus. Melanie conveyed this via voice message to detikcom.

“Two nights ago, Tepeng was still helping him find all kinds of rooms because he was in the hospital for a few days, he has COVID, but he also has high blood pressure,” Melanie said.

“Covid has comorbidities (comorbidities) the results are worse, yes, and left this morning,” Melanie said again.

Melanie Subono admitted that she first learned about the news of Tepeng’s death from her playmate. “Our fellow friends, we are playmates, playmates with Tepeng,” he said.

When the news came, he could not believe that his best friend had died. However, he later received confirmation from Steven’s bandmates that his friend had indeed passed away.

“As soon as he left, he was immediately notified. Even though I heard from his circle, he didn’t want to believe it, I had contacted his bandmate, it was true that he had left. Because a few days ago he had used oxygen, right,” he said again

During his lifetime, Tepeng was known as a reggae musician who played in Steven & Coconut Treez and Steven Jam.

Steven & Coconut Treez started his career with the formation of seven. However, recently the band was strengthened by four people, namely Steven N. Kaligis (vocals), Teguh Wicaksono (guitar), Rival Himran (bass) and Aci (drums).

Tedy Wardhana (percussion) and Aray Daulay (guitar) have passed away and Iwan (keyboardist) is said to be reluctant to live in Jakarta so he decided not to join again.

The reggae band was on hiatus and decided to return with a single titled Fallin’.
