The importance of exercise for people with diabetes, this is the reason – All Pages

Given the importance of exercise for people with diabetes, one of the recommended is cycling.

Exercising causes the body to use up energy which in turn causes the release of more glucose from the muscles and liver.

Normal physical activity helps the body to use insulin effectively along with reducing the risk of suffering from other health complications associated with diabetes.

Exercising also increases sensitivity to insulin which in turn helps regulate blood sugar levels within a normal range.

1. Daily activities

Daily activities that help reduce weight and in turn lower blood glucose levels.

Activities that can be done are walking to the nearest market, playing with the children, cleaning the house, washing your car, walking pets, gardening or taking the stairs instead of the elevator.

2. Aerobic exercise

This includes swimming, brisk walking, cycling or dancing. Do this exercise for about 30 minutes a day for at least 5 days a week to get a significant improvement.

If you’ve never been physically active before, start with 5-10 minutes a day and slowly increase your activity time.

3. Flexibility training

Normal stretching exercises for about 5 10 minutes daily or lifting light weights really help burn more calories while maintaining fitness and activity.

Being physically active is the key to an active and healthy life in people with diabetes.
