An exhibition on the history of Daile Theater / Article is opened in Smiļģis Museum

The Eduards Smiļģis Theater Museum of the Latvian Academy of Culture has opened a new exposition for visitors. The exhibition is dedicated to the Daile Theater and tells about its history from the times of Smiļģis to the present day in photographs, household items, costumes and film chronicles. It is planned that in the future this exposition will be permanently viewed in the museum and will be supplemented with objects donated by the “artists”.

A small company of actors, directors and other interested people gathered at the Eduards Smiļģis Theater Museum, the founder of Daile Theater, on June 21 to get acquainted with the exhibition dedicated to the history of Daile. At the same time, it is a story about the place of this theater in the history of our culture – with form, actors and directors.

Jānis Siliņš, the head of the Eduards Smiļģis Theater Museum, explained: “Everyone in a generation has brought their otherness. It is, as they say, the clarity of its form from Smilgis and its bright maybe even theatricalism. That’s how he’s different, that’s the sign of Daile Theater.

From Smiļģis “Hamlet” to Mikhail Gruzdov “Hamlet”, from Smiļģis “Salomes” to Laura Grozas “Frankenstein” and so on. Tracing its artistic succession, the exhibition tells the story of Daile from its founding in 1920 to the present day, and some of the heroes included in the exhibition can be found among its visitors.

“I have a whole stand – what more could I want?” judges director Laura Groza. She also notes: “I like its mystery and legends section more. [..] And, of course, the biggest impression is left by Smiļģis’ own office. ”

On the two floors of the museum you can see more than 500 photographs, 50 props and theatrical objects, and several costumes, the oldest of which dates from 1938. The creators of the exhibition emphasize that the exposition will be expanded and invite the people of the theater to be generous additions to the collection.

In addition to the exposition about the National Theater, this exhibition is included in the permanent exposition of the Theater Museum. The head of the museum reveals that in the coming years, exhibitions about the glorious history of Liepāja and Valmiera theaters will also reach the audience.
