According to the head of the Pasir Tumboh Fire and Rescue Service, Taraff Mohd Bin Zachariah, the victim was caught in the back tire of the truck and died from a blow to the head.

Mat Rempit has been known since 1998 through the work of cartoonist Halim Hassan in a Malaysian motorcycle magazine to describe illegal racing in the country.
