Alvaro Morata insists he “is doing very well” after missing a glorious opportunity in Spain’s 0-0 draw against Sweden in their first game of Euro 2020.
Morata wasted a great chance, sidelined horribly wide in a head-to-head with Swedish goalkeeper Robin Olsen as Spain failed to assert their dominance.
Luis Enrique’s side were in complete control of their opener in Sevilla, putting together 917 assists against 162 for Sweden, but they failed to put the ball in the net.
Morata, the former Chelsea striker, has come under heavy criticism for his absence but says he doesn’t care about outside noise.
“I took this situation very normally,” Morata said ahead of their clash with Poland. “I’ve been working for the Under-17s to be here and play these tournaments.

“I can’t be loved by everyone. When there are criticisms, you have to respect them but listen little and work.
“In a game, things go so fast that you don’t have time to think.
“The keeper did very well [to close the space] and I had to adapt to the job.
“I don’t know if the ball will enter the goal tomorrow, but I will give 200% every time I play for Spain. It is normal that when you draw a game and you deserve to win it, it costs you to sleep.

“People’s opinion doesn’t change my mood. If I score I’ll be happy for the people who are always with me, but I’m doing great.
“The most important thing I have done is to lead a normal life, to be with my teammates. Everything we do here is important.
“It’s clear that the striker lives for goals. Our job is to score goals. Against Sweden I discharged a lot physically and I think I did a lot well, but it seems like it all comes down to scoring. It is part of our job.
