“Iran’s new president, known as the Butcher of Tehran, is an extremist responsible for the deaths of thousands of Iranians. He is committed to the regime’s nuclear ambitions and its global terror campaign,” Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said on Twitter Arab News, Sunday (20/6/2021).
Meanwhile, the Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Lior Haiat expressed the same opinion in a critical Twitter thread.
“He is an extremist figure, committed to Iran’s rapidly growing military nuclear program,” he said BBC.
In his Twitter thread, Lior Haiat called Raisi a “butcher of Tehran”, referring to the mass execution of thousands of political prisoners in 1988.

Raisi was one of four judges, later known as the “death committee”, who allegedly sentenced about 5,000 men and women to death, Amnesty International said. However, in a tweet, Haiat said more than 30,000 people were killed, a number also referenced by Iranian human rights groups.
Ebrahim Raisi was declared the winner of Iran’s presidential election on Saturday, in a race widely seen as orchestrated for his victory.
Raisi is Iran’s top judge and holds ultra-conservative views. He will be sworn in in August and will become Iran’s first president to serve while under US sanctions and has been linked to the execution of political prisoners in the past.
