In many cities in Brazil, thousands of people again protested against the Corona policy of the Bolsonaro government. The country now has more than 500,000 deaths from the pandemic.
All over Brazil, thousands of people took to the streets against the Corona policy of right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro. In the capital Brasília and 14 provincial capitals, they called for more vaccinations and economic support in the Corona crisis, as the news platform “G1” reported. The demonstrators also called for Bolsonaro to resign, for more efforts to be made in the fight against hunger and environmental degradation, and for the rights of indigenous peoples to be respected.
Brazil is still a corona hotspot: More than 17.8 million people there have been proven to be infected with the corona virus. With 98,135 cases within 24 hours, an absolute daily high was reported on Friday. The country has now passed the half a million corona death mark. With currently more than 2000 new victims daily, the country will soon replace the USA as the country with the world’s highest death toll, virologists calculate.

Bolsonaro keeps playing down danger
The president played down the virus from the start and braced himself against tough exit restrictions, referring to the economic consequences. On Thursday, the ex-military announced that the coronavirus infection would produce more effective immunization than vaccinations. To combat the disease, he continues to recommend the anti-malarial chloroquine and a wormer.
Meanwhile, a parliamentary committee of inquiry is examining Bolsonaro’s crisis management in the pandemic. It emerged that Bolsonaro ignored several BioNTech / Pfizer offers for millions of vaccine doses in mid-2020. The government has only been seriously trying to get vaccines since March.
