Dozens of buildings on fire in southern Poland village

Dozens of buildings are on fire in the village of Nowa Biala in southern Poland. This is reported by local media, including the TV channel Polsat News.

The fire broke out around 6:20 p.m. and spread quickly, as buildings in the village are close together and some of the buildings are made of wood. According to the broadcaster TVN24 21 homes and 20 farms were affected.

About 85 fire brigades and 400 firefighters are fighting the fire. The fire has stopped spreading, but the fire service expects to spend hours extinguishing the fire.

Battle for village preservation

According to TVN24, five people have been taken to hospital: four of them suffered smoke inhalation or burns, one person fell from a roof. It is not clear how many animals survived the fire.

Prime Minister Morawiecki writes on social media that, in addition to the battle in the European Championship match between Spain and Poland, there is another, “perhaps even more difficult fight”, namely that for the preservation of the village. “The situation is serious,” he said. “We are working on helping the affected residents.”
