Still a good thing
Despite everything, unions, service centers and students agree that improving extracurricular activities, if done well, will be a good thing.
“We’re going to have to hire more staff to make sure all the activities go smoothly. It can only be good for students who need it, ”said Richard Bergevin, who warns, however, against a possible obligation of this program, which is still optional.
“High school youth living in small towns sometimes have to share the bus with elementary school. It could cause a lot of problems if it becomes mandatory, ”he said.
“That we are concerned about the life and well-being of students outside of the classroom is good news,” believes Donald Landry for his part.
These students, meanwhile, also see positive in the announcement. “You have to take into account the fact that there are many young people who do not have a favorable living environment. It allows these young people to flourish longer in their school environment, ”argues Jacob, a youngster from the Sherbrooke region.
Remember that, as school planning is already well underway, the terms of the announcement should be sent to the middle sooner rather than later.
