The acquisition of the young tech company could significantly boost Spotify’s podcast business.
The streaming company obviously wants to keep pushing podcasts on its own platform. Because Spotify has now announced that Podz is now part of the Swedish company. With the startup’s technology, users can more easily discover new podcasts and listen to them as a test thanks to highlight excerpts generated by machine learning. Spotify writes about the takeover:
We believe that Podz’ technology will complement and accelerate Spotify’s focused efforts to drive discovery, deliver listeners the right content at the right time, and accelerate growth of the category worldwide.
The Swedish streaming platform currently provides its listeners with over 2.6 million podcast formats. The takeover of Podz is intended to help users with this large selection to quickly find the content they are looking for. Spotify further states that Podz will be integrated into the streaming service in the coming months. By the end of the year, all users should be able to access new features for podcast discovery.
