The MAX 10 model is the first 737 aircraft to make its first test flight since US aviation authorities re-authorized the type.
The 737 MAX has been grounded worldwide since the spring of 2019 after two accidents within a few months. In both cases, a safety system was found to repeatedly push the nose of the aircraft down, even when it was not necessary. Hundreds of people died in the crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia.
Test flight
The test flight is scheduled to take place in Seattle local time Friday morning, although those plans may change depending on weather or other factors. Among other things, new types of sensors are being tested, which should be an extra precaution against the flawed indicators linked to the crashes. The aircraft was built in 2019 and had to be stored due to the flight ban before a test flight could be carried out.
The 737 MAX 10 should enter commercial service in 2023. It is the last variant planned for the 737 MAX family. The aircraft offers space for 230 passengers and can fly about 6000 kilometers with an extra fuel tank.
