The unit has state-of-the-art endoscopy equipment, state-of-the-art diagnostic systems such as the endoscopic capsule (minimally invasive and painless diagnostic examination), and incorporates a new artificial intelligence system, pioneer in the world, for the detection of colon polyps. This new addition provides endoscopy equipment with greater precision in the early diagnosis of colon cancer, increasing the percentage of detection of small or flat initial polyps that may go unnoticed during endoscopy.

The early prevention of colon cancer has become a priority in all cancer screening programs in the world due to its high prevalence in both women and men. It is estimated that in 2020 more than 40,000 cases of colorectal cancer will be diagnosed in Spain. “At HLA La Vega we have a prevention program for this type of tumor for people over 50 years of age who do not have symptoms. A fecal occult blood test is performed followed by a colonoscopy in positive cases. Through this test, precursor cancer lesions can be diagnosed, such as colon polyps, which do not always cause symptoms and which can be removed in the same endoscopic act, without the need for surgery ”, says Dr. Serrano.
