CureVac vaccine does not meet efficacy requirements. Now the company is collapsing on the stock exchange.
The German CureVac vaccine has been shown to be effective at only 47 percent and thus does not meet the statistical success criteria, the company states.
It emerges in a preliminary analysis of the third and final study of the vaccines in which 40,000 people participated, writes the company.
The company’s shares on the US stock exchange have plunged nearly 48 percent in after-sales – down to $ 49 – after the results were published.
CureVac has not yet applied for approval of the vaccine. Last week, a German state minister said that the vaccine will be approved by the EU Medicines Agency in August at the earliest.

The vaccine (CVnCoV) was tested for at least 13 variants of the coronavirus. 134 positive tests were examined in the analysis. 124 of these have been shown to be one of the variants, while only one of the cases was of the original SARS-CoV-2 virus.
– Although we hoped for a better preliminary outcome, we acknowledge that it is challenging to show high efficiency in the diversity of varieties. When we now have to analyze at least 80 more cases, the total vaccine effect can be changed, says Franz-Werner Haas, CEO of CureVac.
