The National Vaccination and Epidemiology Commission decided this Wednesday not to buy the Sinovac vaccine.
This decision was made after analyzing the effectiveness and efficacy of this drug against COVID-19, as well as the clinical studies and other scientific evidence available so far.
“The Ministry of Health had already referred in resolution MS-DM-RM-0933-2021 about the need for the vaccines that arrive in Costa Rica to have a vaccination effectiveness of at least 60% for the prevention of contagion, a requirement that does not reaches Sinovac (51%), as indicated by the World Health Organization (WHO), “the authorities argued in a brief statement.
According to the technical body, it is necessary to know analyzes of countries that have had high vaccination coverage with Sinovac, without achieving control of their epidemic situation.
Other decisions
In the extraordinary session number 30 of the National Vaccination Commission, other decisions were made, all related to the application of doses against the coronavirus.
The experts approved the use of Johnson & Johnson vials, in case a donation is made or received through the COVAX mechanism.
Also, group 3 vaccination was extended to all types of obesity, not just grade 3 and morbid, as previously established.
