Rinus VeeKay, whose real name is Rinus van Kalmthout, will he be able to hold his place in the next round of the IndyCar 2021 championship scheduled at Road America this Sunday, June 20?
Nothing is less certain because his team Ed Carpenter Racing (ECR) announced on Tuesday that the Dutchman had injured his collarbone during cycling training.
« It is currently in the hands of IndyCar medical staff., specified ECR in its press release. VeeKay is in high spirits and does not suffer from any other injuries.
His participation in the Road America meeting this weekend will depend on his fitness. Health bulletins will be distributed in due course ».
VeeKay, 20, is currently 5th in the overall standings after securing his 1st victory in the North American Championship last month at the Indianapolis Grand Prix, where he edged Frenchman Romain Grosjean who started from pole position.
With Patricio O’Ward, Alex Palou, or Colton Herta, Van Kalmthout is part of this talented young generation which is increasingly asserting itself across the Atlantic.
