BI Prohibits Financial Institutions from Facilitating Bitcoin Transactions Cs

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Governor of Bank Indonesia Perry Warjiyo strictly forbids all financial institutions to use cryptocurrencies or cryptocurrencies. Not only using, financial institutions are also prohibited from facilitating this bitcoin cs transaction.

“We prohibit all financial institutions, especially those in partnership with BI, from facilitating or using these cryptocurrencies as payments or financial services,” he said in the BPK RI webinar, Tuesday (15/6/2021).

He again emphasized that crypto is not a legal tender in Indonesia. This is because the only legal means of payment or transaction in Indonesia is rupiah.

“Crypto is not a legal means of payment in accordance with the Constitution (UUD), the Law (Law) of currency, and the BI Law. Crypto is an asset, not a legal means of payment,” he explained.

According to him, BI will assign a team to supervise its partner financial institutions. This is to ensure that no one uses crypto in their transactions.

“We will also deploy supervisors to ensure that the financial institution complies with the provisions outlined in the currency law,” he said.

Once again, he appealed to financial institutions partnering with BI not to use bitcoin cs as a transaction tool.

“We make sure again, crypto-crypto, bitcoin, etc., are not legal tender and we forbid financial institutions to use them as payment media,” he said.
