One Piece: 5 Characters Franky Could Defeat Before the Timeskip (& 5 He Couldn’t)

Franky was the owner of the Straw Hat Pirates and a formidable character from the universe of One Piece. Armed with a diverse arsenal of weapons ranging from flamethrowers to bladed sideburns, you have a myriad of ways to protect your friends and your crew.

Even before upgrading her body with the best Vegapunk technologies, Cutty Flam has shown her competence and skill in battle. By facing him before the timeskip to a diverse number of opponents, we can better appreciate how he has progressed since the dramatic split at Sabaody.

10 COULD WIN: Kalifa’s Devil Fruit is countered by Franky’s flamethrower

Kalifa’s Devil Fruit allowed him to “cleanse” his adversaries and make them impossibly slippery. However, it required physical contact in order to use it, and the spathes could be dried (either by washing or by more conventional means).

If Franky used his “fresh fire”, it would provide a relatively harmless solution to the threat posed by the agent. Considering that her “left weapon” would assault Kalifa with devastating rounds of bullets, it is unlikely that she would have a chance to touch him in the first place.

9 WOULD LOSE TO: Oars Jr. has enormous durability Franky couldn’t compete with

Oars Jr. had enormous durability, capable of surviving a massive attack from Kuma (which could kill any Straw Hat instantly), having his leg decapitated by Doflamingo, and even being impaled on both sides by Gecko Moria.

Considering that he was able to withstand the combined assault of three warlords (and a barrage of Navy cannons), it follows that he should be able to take Franky’s attacks with ease while throwing him like a rag doll and making him shatters.

8 COULD BEAT: Chopper’s transformations are limited and much less powerful than Franky’s weapons

Before the timeskip, Chopper would be a relatively trivial adversary for Franky. Not only is his strength limited by the duration of his Rumble Ball, but he also doesn’t have as much durability as his cyborg opponent (who was instead able to survive the self-destruct sequence in Vegapunk’s workshop).

After Chopper has inevitably worn down, Franky could defeat him with a sturdy “strong right”. Its vastly superior arsenal would allow it to succeed, especially when combined with superior durability and strength.

7 WOULD LOSE TO: Zoro has cut through steel and could just as easily cut Franky

Able to move fast enough to create images of himself and strong enough to cut through steel, Zoro has both the mobility and punching power to take Franky down. This is especially true if you can access the cyborg’s vulnerable back during one of his running attacks.

Even Franky’s ultimate weapon – his blast cannons – wouldn’t be powerful enough to defeat Zoro, considering that Zoro was tough enough to stand upright after receiving millions of volts of electricity from Eneru. Unfortunately for the point guard, his versatile arsenal cannot compensate for Zoro’s superior prowess.

6 COULD WIN: Wapol is a slow melee fighter who would quickly be overwhelmed

Although Wapol’s “Factory” ability allows him to produce cannons and other treacherous projectiles, he is primarily a melee fighter, and an extremely immobile one. Considering that Franky was fast enough to keep up with Fukurou (an experienced CP9 agent), he would be more than adept at staying out of the despot’s range while attacking him with missiles and bullets.

Given Wapol’s low resistance to forceful attacks (demonstrated during his loss to Luffy), Franky’s “strong right” or the burst cannon would be more than enough to forcefully defeat him.

5 WOULD LOSE: The crocodile devil fruit would take Franky’s tail away

Crocodile’s Devil Fruit may be more applicable to water, but it was also capable of dehydrating any fluid from its opponents’ bodies. Even if his conventional attacks (such as sand blasts and weaponry) weren’t particularly effective against Franky’s metallic exterior, he would be able to completely depower him by depleting his tail pool.

His victory is especially assured, as Franky’s only means of hurting him is his flamethrower. And since the warlord survived an encounter with Akainu, Franky’s arsenal is paltry by comparison.

4 COULD BEAT: Dosun is big, clumsy, and relatively inexperienced

Dosun was a member of the New Fishman Pirates who wielded a huge hammer. He was capable of taking on the sons of Neptune and had tremendous (albeit direct) offensive potential.

However, Franky’s “Left Weapon” and “Fresh Fire” would provide ranged utilities that would take advantage of the villain’s poor mobility and clumsy reflexes. As a result, Dosun would be defeated long before he had a chance to destroy the cyborg.

3 WOULD LOSE TO: Franky has no means to counteract Perona’s gaps

Perona’s negative holes were capable of piercing through her victims and inflicting terrible discomfort on them. They couldn’t be avoided no matter how tough the target was, and they were moving at alarming speed.

Considering that Franky succumbed to its pernicious effects during the events of Thriller Bark and had to be saved by Usopp, it follows that he would fare fatally in a solo battle. His only chance of victory is if he could shoot Perona before her holes were deployed.

2 COULD WIN: Don Krieg’s defenses would be irrelevant against a mechanical opponent

Don Krieg’s arsenal was as extensive as Franky’s own, including a steel net, a spiked protective cloth, and even a poison gas bomb that he can deploy at will. However, the latter requires that you wear a gas mask to be able to use it safely. If Franky were to hit him with the extendable reach of a “strong right,” he could confiscate such luxury from his underhanded opponent.

Krieg’s spiked shroud would not protect him from Franky’s fury, considering that his fists are made of metal and would not take as deep an impact as flesh and bone.

1 WOULD LOSE: Kuma was Franky’s tech superior in every way imaginable

After being enhanced by the enigmatic Doctor Vegapunk, Kuma was the first villain to defeat the combined efforts of the Straw Hats. He could condense pressure in his palm strong enough to knock down giants and instantly defeat Zoro, whose feats of durability are known to be impressive.

Furthermore, the robot’s beam has a tremendously formidable range, and even a replicated copy of itself (known as a Pacifist) was powerful enough to take on the Worst Generation. Considering his astonishing accolades, Franky’s chances are slim.
