At the time the best right back in the world together with his compatriot, Dani Alves, but more than a decade after the climax of his career, Maicon clings to European football and now he will go on an adventure through the very modest club Three Penne de San Marino with the possibility of contesting continental competition next season.
About to turn 40, Maicon Douglas Sisenando will join his new club to seek to play the Conference League, the tournament that UEFA will premiere in the 2021-2022 season for those “third-line” clubs that did not reach places in the Champions or Europa League.
Maicon played in Serie D in Italy
The race of Maicon was marked by success in Italy with the Inter de Milan, with whom between 2006 and 2012 he won absolutely all possible trophies, including the Champions League and the Club World Cup. He also defended the colors of Roma, AS Monaco and Manchester City and in 2017 he returned to his native Brazil for what was assumed as his farewell, but in 2021 he wanted to catch his “fifth wind”.
With several stoppages between 2017 and 2020 due to not having a fixed team, Maicon returned to Europe in January 2021 with the unknown Sona Calcio from the Italian Serie D (Fourth Division), with which he continues to compete until June 20, to later report in San Marino with the Three Pens.
Luca Nanni, general secretary of the club, confirmed that the commitment of the Brazilian footballer is, for now, for the dispute of that previous round of the Conference League. Subsequently, it is not ruled out that he joins for a season.
