The Xunta extends free public transport to those under 21 years of age throughout Galicia from next May 21, using the ‘Xente Nova’ card.
This device, which until now could be used in metropolitan transport areas in the province of Ourense and in 13 town councils in the Pontevedra area, will be expanded to the whole community starting Friday of next week, allowing all those under the age of 21 to travel for free on the Xunta bus, as well as on the boat in the case of the Vigo estuary and on the narrow gauge railway in the Ferrol area.
This card can be purchased at any of the 213 Abanca offices enabled in the four provinces. To start using it, it is necessary to load the card with an initial balance with which the trips will be paid and later it will be reintegrated into the device.
In the Web page www.bus.gal the information related to this device and the associated advantages, as well as the list of all the branches enabled for its dispatch and the existing transport services in each municipality, with the corresponding schedules and routes.
Currently, more than 80,000 young people under 21 years of age already travel for free on the Xunta’s intercity buses through the use of this card.
The A Coruña area is home to the largest number of devices issued, accounting for almost 22,850; followed by that of Vigo, with almost 17,225 cards distributed; and Santiago, with about 12,150. In the Ferrol area, more than 9,600 boys have this card; in Pontevedra, more than 5,200; and in Ourense, more than 2,700.
The card allows up to 60 free intercity trips. Your surcharge can be made at Abanca ATMs or at the offices authorized to issue it and also electronically through the mobile or electronic banking of the aforementioned entity.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Mobility is currently working so that users can carry this card directly on their mobile and make the surcharges without the need for an ATM.
