Annual inflation in the US rose to 5% in May from 4.2% in April, the highest annual inflation in the United States since August 2008, according to data released by the US Department of Employment on Thursday.
As the pandemic subsides and the economy opens up, the population spends more money and this contributes to rising inflation, the ministry said.
Compared to the previous month, consumer prices increased by 0.6% in May.
In April, monthly consumer prices in the country increased by 0.8%.
