On June 11, a special ceremony took place in the center of Poznań. Two days after the 74th anniversary of Bohdan Smoleń’s birth, his monument was unveiled there. The monument was erected on the square between Rybaki and Strzałowa streets. The date of the ceremony has changed twice due to the epidemic situation in Poland. Finally, it was carried out a year later than planned.

The organizers of the ceremony organized a number of attractions for the audience. Before the climax of the evening, cabaret artists such as Krzysztof Daukszewicz, MoCarta Group, Cabaret Czesuaf and BIS Skipper Club. The unveiling of the monument took place in an unusual way. The figure of Bohdan Smoleń emerged from the flames because the cloth covering him was set on fire on purpose. This was accompanied by a fireworks display.

The originator of the construction of the monument was Krzysztof Deszczyński. The artist’s longtime collaborator and friend also organized a fundraiser for this purpose. The monument shows Bohdan Smoleń sitting at the table. An empty chair was set up on the other side of the table top for those willing to sit next to the satirist’s image. Piotr Socha was responsible for the project.

Legendary satirist
Bohdan Smoleń conquered the Polish scene together with Zenon Laskowik in the Tey cabaret. The performances of satirists became one of the symbols of the city in the 70s and 80s. Smoleni was very popular with the role of the postman Edzia in the series “Świat according to Kiepskich”. He spent the last years of his life working with the Foundation for the Creation of Mr. Smoleń, which he founded in 2007. He died on December 15, 2016 at the age of 69.
