The San Francisco Giants traded right-hander Matt Wisler to the Tampa Bay Rays for minor league southpaw Michael Plassmeyer, the team announced.
The Rays designated catcher Deivy Grullon for assignment in order to open a spot on the roster of 40 for Wisler.
Wisler, 28, was long one of the best pitching prospects, with both the Padres and the Braves.
He never found his footing with either club, but he enjoyed an outstanding season in the Minnesota Twins’ bullpen last summer’s short season, when he posted a 1.07 ERA with a 32.7% strikeout percentage in 25 innings.
