VIDEO – Coronavirus: from Paris to New York via New Delhi, the world at a standstill

“Remember that even one step away from your home can bring severe coronavirus disease back to your home.” The warning was issued by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a country which has joined the already long list of those who have called on their populations to stay at home to stem the spread of the disease.

After a test day, India and its 1.3 billion inhabitants confined themselves for a minimum of three weeks on Tuesday March 24.

A decision that was immediately seen in the streets of New Delhi where the chirping of birds replaced the usual cacophony of horns and cries. Similar scenes were visible all over the world, where now more than 2.6 billion people live in isolation – nearly a third of the world’s population.

From the Trocadéro esplanade to the mythical Times Square in New York, from the avenues of Madrid to the boulevards of Buenos Aires, a dead calm reigns everywhere that captivates almost as much as it worries. According to an assessment established by AFP from official sources, more than 18,000 people have lost their lives as a result of this virus and more than 400,000 cases of infection have been diagnosed in 175 countries and territories.
