Archaeologists in Israel have discovered almost a whole chicken egg, which is about one thousand years old. Excavations were carried out near the town of Yavne.
About it informs Israel Antiquities Authority. The find dates back to the Byzantine period.
“Fragments of eggshell are known from earlier periods, but due to the fragile shells of eggs, almost no whole chicken eggs have survived. Even at the global level, this is an extremely rare find,” said Dr. Lee Perry Gel.
The scientist added that archaeologists sometimes find ancient ostrich eggs, where thicker shells keep them intact.
“Even today, eggs rarely survive long in supermarket bags. It is surprising to think that this is a millennial find! The unique preservation of an egg is clearly related to the conditions in which it lay for centuries, located in a cesspool containing soft human waste that preserved it,” added the archaeologist Department of Antiquities of Israel Alla Nagorskaya.
It is noted that the egg was slightly cracked, so all of its contents leaked out. Only part of the yolk remained, which was preserved for DNA analysis.
As reported OBOZREVATEL, in Israel they found a tombstone, where carved inscription in ancient Greek “Blessed Mary, who lived a blameless life.”
Also in Israel discovered parts of a scroll about two thousand years oldwhere the texts from the Bible are applied.
