Stop, but only at the moment, the inoculation of the AstraZeneca / Vaxzevira vaccine in the under 60s. The Sicilian Region decided it, as a precaution, with a letter sent to the general directors of the health agencies and to the Covid commissioners of the island. “In light of recent press reports relating to the positions taken by the president of the technical-scientific committee – we read – in reference to the risk / benefit balance regarding the administration of the Vaxzevria vaccine (formerly Astrazeneca ed) to subjects under the age of 60, and pending an official ruling by the same body, the suspension with immediate effect of the administration to all citizens under the age of 60 is arranged as a precaution “.
A stop that will not be valid for those waiting for the second dose, says the general manager of Daose, Mario La Rocca, “in the absence of contarious scientific evidence”. In Sicily, however, the Open days scheduled from today until Sunday remain scheduled but the only vaccine that will be administered will be the Johnson & Johnson one.
Today, the Gimbe Foundation raised the case which argued that in the case of a reduced circulation of the Covid virus, it is preferable to allocate the AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccines only to over 50, so that the risks from vaccines to vector viral are as low as possible. The position was taken following the onset of (rare) adverse effects associated with the AstraZeneca vaccine among the very young, which were destined for open days.
