On Thursday, June 10, Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth’s deceased husband, would be 100 years old. The prince died earlier this spring, just over two months before the big day.
On the occasion that the prince would turn 100 years old, the queen received a new rose for her garden, named after her husband, writes US Weekly.
– It was a moving experience, but very nice to be able to convey her majesty Queen Elizabeth the rose after the Duke of Edinburgh, to mark what would have been his 100th birthday and remember his remarkable life, says Keith Weed from the Royal Garden Society in a statement to Reuters.
The rose has been planted in the garden of Windsor Castle, which is also where Prince Philip died, and the Queen has spent a lot of time over the past year.
The newly derived rose is light pink and will be available for purchase in the UK. The proceeds will go to the “Duke of Edinburgh’s Living Legacy Fund”, which is Prince Philips’ program dedicated to the education of young people.
The queen and the prince’s eldest son, Prince Charles, reminded his father with a message on Twitter of what would be his 100th birthday.
“Remember the Duke of Edinburgh, on what would have been his 100th birthday.”
Turbulent time
It has been some demanding months for the British royal family after the Queen’s granddaughter, Prince Harry and his wife Duchess Meghan, retired from his royal duties in February.
Shortly afterwards, specifically in March, they lined up in it the much talked about interview with Oprah Winfrey where the couple made several accusations against the British royal family.
Among other things, the couple accused the British royal family of racism.
Meghan said in the interview that before she and Prince Harry had their first child, her husband was met with “worries and conversations” about “how dark Archie’s skin would be”. The Duchess’ mother and father have dark and light skin tones, respectively. According to Oprah, however, the comments did not come from Queen Elizabeth or Prince Philip.
Want no contact
As mentioned, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan have made several headlines after leaving the royal family. But things did not go smoothly in the years before either.
Ever since the two became a couple, the Duchess’ family has contributed to several headlines, especially hers father and sister have been very open about what they think of the Duchess in the British press, and it has rarely been positive.
Now that the duke couple have settled in California in the United States, Duchess Meghan, who is American, is closer to the family geographically than she has been for a long time. This does not mean, however, that she has developed a closer relationship with them.
It is probably not a wish on the part of the Duchess to resume contact with the family anyway, but an unnamed relative of the Duchess can tell Fox News that the family also has no desire to have contact either.
– We are obviously in different social classes, so we will never talk again, the relative says to the channel.
The relative says that the family has been separated from the Duchess ever since her strained relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, became known to the public. The duchess must have made it clear that she thinks she is above her family and where she comes from, according to the anonymous relative.
– Real family ties are what is important to me. You do not have to be someone else or another social class to be accepted and loved.
It must have been the Duchess’s choice not to have contact with her family, but the relative does not hide that the family has no plan to contact her as it will not result in any reunion.
– I’m not looking for someone who does not want to talk to me. I have my own family, and we could not be happier to share the love we have. So in other words, I could not care less.

Lost his father
“Gossip Girl” star Blake Lively is in mourning after her father, Ernie Lively, passed away last Thursday at the age of 74.
