JAKARTA, iNews.id – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) call Police chief Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo after hearing a truck driver’s complaint about burglary in the area Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta. The National Police Chief also promised to immediately clean up the Tanjung Priok area of thuggery.
The effect of Jokowi’s telephone call to the National Police Chief was immediately felt. Jakarta Metro Police arrested as many as 24 thugs who made illegal levies (extortion) against container truck drivers at Tanjung Priok Port.
North Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Guruh Arif Darmawan explained that the perpetrators were arrested in two different locations and are currently being investigated intensively.
“We have secured 24, again we are checking intensively,” said Guruh in Jakarta, Thursday (10/6/2021).
The first location of the arrest was at the PT Greating Fortune Container depot and the second location was at the PT Dwipa Kharisma Mitra Jakarta depot. Although the arrests were made in two different locations, their modus operandi was the same. The thugs demanded payments from the truck drivers unofficially.
Guruh explained that currently the police are still investigating the identity of the perpetrators, including the alleged boss who took them from them. He said that if extortion practices were discovered later, his party would not hesitate to take firm action against them.
“Yes, if it happens again, we will take firm action. This will burden the drivers,” he said.
