An informed offer from Napoli for a rarely seen Chelsea star has left Thomas Tuchel pondering two options that could affect his chances of landing a big transfer hit.
Chelsea they are hard at work mapping a route through the transfer window hoping to see them throw a title tilt next season. The newly crowned European Champions have a talented squad. However, that hasn’t stopped the Blues from doing their magic at the window.
The club is reportedly excited about the idea of catching a superstar striker to complete their puzzle. Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland has absorbed the most column inches, although Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane have been promoted.
To help ease the financial burden of such a flashy arrival, a large number of departures have been proposed.
Serie A seems to be the most likely destination for several Blues. Olivier Giroud, Fikayo Tomori and Hakim Ziyech have been linked with AC Milan. In Giroud’s case, the renewal of his contract may have been a shrewd business to ensure a fee can be received.
Rarely seen from the side Emerson Palmieri It has also been speculated with his possible exit. Former Blues boss Antonio Conte even endorsed a signing for Inter for his compatriot.
A recent report indicated Palmieri could be used as supplemental weight to help carry Achraf Hakimi to Stamford Bridge.
However, according to Italian publication CalcioMercato, Tuchel is now at a fork in the road to Palmieri’s future.
They reveal (via ChelseaNews) that Napoli has submitted a 15 million euro offer for the defender. That would represent a small loss of the 20 million euros that Chelsea paid three years ago. However, given that Palmieri has been a small number since it arrived, 15 million euros is still a good value.
That leaves Chelsea and Tuchel with a decision to make. For one thing, they could take the deal and add the funds to their forward hunting kitty.
By contrast, removing Palmieri from Hakimi’s equation of trade would decrease his chances of landing the Moroccan.
Chelsea settled ready for a family test
Meanwhile, Chelsea has softened her stance on Callum Hudson-Odoi’s future after a family suitor rekindled her interest, according to a report.
According to The Times, Bayern Munich are ready to relaunch their search for Hudson-Odoi. They tried to sign him in 2019, before Chelsea tied him to a new contract.
That deal runs through 2024, but Chelsea you could get paid before that date. Given that Hudson-Odoi doesn’t have as many opportunities as he might have predicted, a change of scenery could benefit all parties.
However, that is not something the forward is looking to happen. According to the Evening Standard, Hudson-Odoi wishes to fight for his place under Tuchel. However, as always, the club will have the last word.
