Tuesday June 8, 2021, after long hours of work for three days, there were only a few adjustments to be made on the Ferris wheel that will welcome visitors for three months at the Tréport (Seine-Maritime).
“We are in the process of making the last engine adjustments, so that the wheel turns correctly” explains Rudy Merveillie, manager of the company MV Amusement. With a large adjustable wrench, his colleague adjusts the positioning of the wheels that will drive the 18 cars in the structure.
18 cars, 108 passengers
Precision work that the MV Amusement team masters perfectly, even after long months of shutdown due to the sanitary context. “It’s a relief to be able to work again. We came here last year and it went well. It’s a sector that is quite touristy and we decided to stay longer this time, ”says Rudy Merveillie.
Accessible mid-July in 2020, the Ferris wheel will welcome the public from Friday 11 June 2021 this year, “and probably even a little earlier, since we have made good progress,” says the manager.
The company arrived in Le Tréport on June 4 around midnight. After having parked the trailer of the truck in the right place, the merry-go-round is propped up and two masts are erected (photo above right). The structure of the wheel is then assembled as it is: a spoke and a “banana” (name of the parts which form the circumference of the wheel) are put in place, then the wheel turns to install the next part. An operation renewed 18 times, since the wheel is divided into 18 parts for the 18 cars which can accommodate 108 passengers in total.
“On Sunday, we worked from 8 am to 7 pm, with five people. Then on Monday, we installed the cars ”explains Rudy Merveillie.
An impressive installation, which will allow locals and tourists to enjoy a beautiful view of the sea and the three Sister Cities until September. “We check the installation every day, in particular that the pins and wedges are properly closed everywhere. And even if there is a problem with these parts, there is another security that takes over, ”explains the manager.
Practical information: The Ferris wheel is accessible every day from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., or even later on busy days. Prices: € 4 for children under 10, € 5 for others.
