AKURAT.CO, When you use a new phone and install WhatsApp, WhatsApp will usually send an SMS for the verification process. The practice of SMS verification itself is not new and has been used by many other types of online services. However, WhatsApp is reportedly planning to switch to phone calls for the process.
Reporting from Ubergizmo, Tuesday (8/6) according to a WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp will call the user’s phone number and automatically end the call immediately. This is done to verify that the last number in the user’s phone log is the same as the number that gave them the regular 6-digit OTP code. This method is also believed to be more secure for verifying users.
For those who are using WhatsApp on one device and have different numbers, this method might cause problems. However, previous reports revealed that WhatsApp is working on bringing multi-device support to its platform. So, one WhatsApp account can be accessed on multiple devices at once so the problem should not exist.
The feature is reportedly being tested to use one account on multiple devices, and allows users to link four devices within the feature.
This new feature, which can verify accounts via flash calls or ‘flash calls’, will be available for the Android version 2.21.11.7. At this time, it is not known when this feature will be officially launched.
