At the developer conference in San Francisco, Apple presented numerous innovations – including the “Private Relay” function, which encrypts data traffic. As a result, the information is not visible to Apple or Internet services.
Apple Vice President Craig Federighi praised the new feature: “At Apple, we believe that privacy is a fundamental human right. We don’t think that one should compromise between great functionality and privacy.”
Apple is under pressure from customers to limit the tracking of their data.
Tuong Nguyen, technology analyst at Gartner, says the new data protection restrictions that Apple has introduced are a challenge for any company that tracks users in order to offer them advertising.
In the future, users should be able to track which apps are collecting their data and partially hide IP addresses in order to prevent tracking.
Tech journalist Maxime Johnson explains that Private Relay only works for subscribers to iCloud +, which is of course paid for. But that is not surprising.
However, the function will also not be available for Apple customers in China, Saudi Arabia, Belarus, South Africa and some other countries.
As the Tech Crunch reporter writes, Apple announced this technology last year.
