Sculpture author Sam Durant wants viewers to reflect on these predatory drones

A sculpture of a giant drone stands over New York’s High Line park within a US drone war program. Sam Durant, author of the work of art, has said that with this sculpture, made of fiberglass and without a title, the viewer is intended to reflect and even ask questions about this type of drones. In this case it is a predator drone that is mounted on a 25 foot high pole and rotates when pushed by the wind.
The goal is to remind the public that drones and surveillance are a constant presence in the daily lives of many who live outside and within the United States, “said its creator Durant.
Those who run into it are surprised. One of his viewers says that the first thing that came to mind is September 11. Another viewer says it makes him think about the future. Some even find it a bit intimidating and scary here in New York City that it can even be purchased.
