“We are counting the vaccines reaching Lithuania, let’s see how many we will have for the second doses that are needed (…). It seems that the middle of June could probably be the time when we could offer vaccinations for this age group as well, ”A. Dulkys told the News Radio on Tuesday.
“I think so,” he added, asking if that meant vaccinating teens could begin in a week.
Earlier, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė mentioned that the vaccination of twelve-year-olds and older people will start in June, but the process will take a long time, because there are about 120 thousand children who can be vaccinated.
In Lithuania, all residents over the age of 16 can currently be vaccinated, which can be done with the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccines, which would also be given to twelve-year-olds. Their vaccination with Comirnaty was approved by the European Medicines Agency at the end of May.
Children from the age of twelve have already been vaccinated in Italy, Germany and other countries.
According to A. Dulkis, there are currently free vaccines available in Lithuania for all manufacturers used in the country.
“Personally, I was most afraid that there would be a situation: I want to register, but there is no vaccine I want. So far, the situation is such that all vaccines are available – just register, ”A. Dulkys told Knowledge Radio.
“It simply came to our notice then. At present, when the mass vaccination started, a total of over 200 thousand people have registered. people, ”he noted.
Mass vaccination of the population was launched in Lithuania last week: all residents over 16 years of age can be vaccinated.
