Fabrizio Romano has said on the Tottenham Fan Chris Cowlin YouTube channel that Mauricio Pochettino reminded Georginio Wijnaldum that he wanted him at Tottenham Hotspur in order to convince the outgoing Liverpool player to join him at Paris Saint-Germain.
The well-known and respected journalist has reported in The Guardian that Wijnaldum has signed a contract with PSG after choosing him over Barcelona.
The Dutch international midfielder is out of contract at Liverpool at the end of the month and will move to PSG with a free transfer.

Romano said on YouTube channel Tottenham Fan Chris Cowlin: “Pochettino was calling Wijnaldum several times. He was telling him: ‘I loved you five years ago when I was at Tottenham. Join me at Paris Saint-Germain. We have this great opportunity to stay together. ‘
“So Pochettino was key in the negotiations between Wijnaldum and Paris Saint-Germain.”
Pochettino wanted Wijnaldum when the latter was at Newcastle United.
The 30-year-old himself said, as quoted in The Mirror, that he went to Pochettino’s house to discuss a possible move to Tottenham.
The Dutchman eventually joined Liverpool, where he won the Premier League and the Champions League.

Pochettino has been strongly linked with a return to Tottenham.
Spurs president Daniel Levy is on the hunt for a permanent coach following the firing of José Mourinho in April.
However, Romano’s comments make it clear that Pochettino will not be leaving PSG for Spurs now.
After all, why would the Argentine call the players and convince them to move to PSG?
In other news, Nathan Patterson’s debut has these fans insisting that Scotland’s first match of Euro 2020 ‘must start’.
