Last Saturday (5), Botafogo beat Coritiba 2-0, in a match valid for the second round of the Brazilian Serie B Championship. It was Glorioso’s first victory in the competition, however, the Paraná team felt harmed by a penalty scored for the Boot, as well as, for a disallowed goal and filed a request to challenge the game, requested to the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD). The club filed a formal complaint with the Arbitration Committee of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), for other alleged errors committed by the refereeing team in the match.

On the part of the STJD, the president of the agency, Otávio Noronha, will analyze Coritiba’s request, with the possibility of accepting the request or rejecting it. The bid that will pass through the sieve of Noronha happened on the 31st minute, when the duel at the Nlton Santos stadium was still tied. It is a charged foul that ended up in Bota’s nets, however, the Bahian referee Dewson Fernando Freitas stated in a summary that he had not authorized the charge when the Coritiba player hit the foul. Alviverde players claimed that such authorization occurred.
The penalty kick, scored and claimed by Coritiba, happened at 14 minutes into the second half. The ball hit Igor’s hand after the corner kick. The penalty was appointed by the referee and Marco Antônio scored the goal after the goalkeeper rebounded from the missed kick.
There is no deadline for the entity’s decision, but similar cases usually have a response within a week. If the action is taken forward, the CBF has to go back and not ratify the result of the match and Botafogo’s three points will be withdrawn until a final decision is made.
