What the best juniors in the country had to offer in the Gossauer Buechenwaldhalle was worth seeing. The talents showed wit, set a high pace and fought head-to-head. In the first of two playoff finals, GC Amicitia Zurich kept the better end to themselves against the Regional Performance Center (RLZ) Fürstenland away with 23:22. The close result means that the decision about the Swiss championship title will only be made in the second leg on Sunday in the Zurich Saalsporthalle.

In front of a backdrop of 100 spectators, the home team awarded a better starting position for the away game in the final quarter of an hour. Because before that, the Fürstenländer had led at 20:15. But only two hits resulted from the last twelve attack attempts, while the Zurich team scored eight.

Coach Raphael Kramer’s team had the best phase before and after the break. The defense increased significantly and prevented a good throwing position almost entirely. And when GC Amicitia ever got into a final situation, there was the strong goalie Nick Schönenberger. On the offensive, the trio Loris Zeller, Lukas Osterwalder and Andrin Schneider set the tone for the Princely Lands. They scored 16 of the 22 hits for the RLZ. The influence of the Zurich top duo was even greater. Robin Zimmermann and Jann Bamert even threw 18 of the 24 GC Amicitia Zurich goals.

Who will stop the Zurich top duo?

The defeat should be more of an incentive than a damper for the RLZ Fürstenland. Because in the second leg in Zurich, the Swiss championship title is still within reach. It will be exciting to see how the Fürstenländer Defensive wants to stop the duo Zimmermann / Bamert. Because in the first leg this was hardly possible over a long period of time. In terms of squad width and cohesion, the RLZ Fürstenland seemed to have more of an advantage. If the Eastern Swiss talents increase in the litter yield and can keep Bamert and Zimmermann in check at the same time, a victory with two goals difference is quite possible. One thing is certain: it will remain exciting until the last second. That alone is a huge success for the RLZ Fürstenland.
