Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Technology company Apple rolled out new features in iOS 15 that serve life post-pandemic, including updates to video calling on FaceTime and digital lock on Wallet.
In FaceTime, Apple will offer a new option to let users watch movies or listen to music together during calls. This option also introduces a new grid view to better display each face in calls.
Android and Windows users can now also join FaceTime calls.
“We all meet using video calls for almost everything,” said Apple’s SVP of software engineering, Craig Federighi, during a virtual presentation at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Monday (7/6) quoted CNN.
Apple also introduced an update to its mobile wallet that allows users to unlock everything from homes to hotel rooms with a digital key in the app.
“You can never leave the house without your keys, so we’re constantly adding keys to the wallet and making it even better,” said Jennifer Bailey, VP of internet and Apple Pay services.
One of the newest additions to this digital lock is like a car key to unlock a vehicle from an iPhone. According to Bailey, BMW and others will load cars with this feature from late 2021.
The company will also make it possible to store user ID cards in Apple Wallet. Users can scan their driver’s license or ID card into the wallet application -in participating states- where it will be stored in an encrypted form. Bailey said Apple was working with the TSA to use the digital ID at airport security checkpoints.
During the pandemic, most activities are carried out behind the scenes. Apple’s announcement this time hints at how the company hopes to remain an important part of users’ lives, even as many continue to work and socialize outside the home.
For people who are still often glued to their screens, Apple introduced a new iOS feature called “Focus”. This feature allows users to choose what types of notifications they want to receive, and from whom, at specific times of the day.
Users can set their phones to “work” mode, and choose to only receive notifications from coworkers, emails, and Slack messages. When other notifications are turned off, users can set automatic “do not disturb” replies for messages.
“With Focus, you can carve out time in your day for work and personal life,” says Federighi.
In iMessage, Apple makes it easy for users to track photos, links, and other content they’ve sent. Apps including Photos, Safari, and Apple Music will also include a “shared folder with you” to highlight content that has been sent via messages.
