Vejdi Rashidov gave way to a young man with experience as a mayor, Nunev gave way to a student
Nearly half of the current faces in GERB’s lists will be replaced by professionals aged 20-30. This is the result of the month-long regular meetings of the former prime minister and party leader Boyko Borissov with the youth structures.
Borissov had spoken personally about the entry of each of the young people in the lists after talks, party sources revealed.
The drivers remain the same as on April 4. Borissov will lead the 25th MIR in Sofia and Plovdiv, Kostadin Angelov in Varna and Tarnovo, Lyuben Dilov-son in Burgas. Only the leader in the 24th MIR will be new – former Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov, and in the third Sofia region the leader will be the UDF leader Rumen Hristov.
“We have to prepare the new young additions that enter the party for municipal councilors, mayors, district governors. I welcome Nunev’s decisions in Vratsa, Ruse and Yambol just such young people
to be subtracted

Old celebrities have already withdrawn and this wave continues. Menda Stoyanova and Krassimir Velchev dropped out of the lists on April 4. Vezhdi Rashidov will not take part in the forthcoming vote, and his position in the Plovdiv list is occupied by Pencho Malinov. He was a municipal councilor for 2 terms.
“First, I was an MP for 5 terms. Secondly, I am 70 years old. Third, it is time to give way to the young and for them to develop. And fourth,
Eyebrows came and

from politics. One must know one’s limits, “Rashidov said.
Only 21 years old, Georgi Krastev replaced Plamen Nunev in Ruse not only in the list, but also as a regional coordinator. He is still studying law at the University of Ruse. (Interview with Krastev see below.)

He occupies the elective fourth place in the 24th MIR – Sofia. He is a native of Varna and graduated in mathematics and computer science at Sofia University. He has been with GERB since 2015, and his desire to join came while he was still in high school.
“Then I constantly heard that Bulgaria is in last place in various rankings, that our country is unpleasant and we all have to emigrate. I wanted these words to be removed from society, to remain in the past. I wanted Bulgaria to take the first place in good rankings and to be given as an example as a good place to live “, Georgiev explained.
Only in a position lower in the list of the 24th MIR is also placed a youth of the party. Dragomir Mladenov, 29, is a graduate of the classical high school, graduated in history and geopolitics in the Balkans at Sofia University. He trades in fabrics. Dragomir joined GERB after losing the presidential election in 2017. “I have been a supporter of the party since 2009. At that time I could not vote and convinced my father to vote for GERB, arguing that Boyko Borissov as mayor sanctified the church against us.” tells the young gerbera. He already has experience in elections. On April 4, he was on the same list, but number 16. He then garnered 164 votes. However, during his last meeting with Borissov, he received praise for his work.
Dragomir and Georgi are the only party members in their families. This is not the case for the 7th in the list for the 26th MIR in Sofia region. The 29-year-old doctor Dr. Antonio Tenev has been a specialist in pediatric surgery at Pirogov for 3 years. His father, also a doctor, and his mother, who is a lawyer, are members of GERB. Antonio is from Kostinbrod, graduated from the Medical University in Sofia and joined the party 10 years ago. He says that in order to get on the lists, you have to be realized in your profession.
“At 18, you don’t have much idea what is left or what is right. The main thing that led me to get involved in politics then and now was the desire to help other people. GERB has shown that it is a responsible party, “Antonio told 24 Chasa. His political cause is quality healthcare. In order to be among the young people who are the new faces in GERB, you must first be prominent in your profession, Antonio shares his observations from the meetings with Borissov.
Half of the GERB list in Pleven has been replaced with young people. Plamen Tachev and the current regional leader Miroslav Petrov were removed from it, who vacated and handed over the party post to Valeri Lachovski from the municipal structure in Knezha. The 37-year-old economics and health management specialist was eighth on the April list, but will now be in a better position.
Lawyer Alexander Nikolov will also be ahead in the ranking.

Georgi Krastev: Revanchism will not lead to anything positive
Georgi Krastev was born on December 15, 1999 in Ruse. He graduated with honors from the Baba Tonka Mathematical High School in the city. He is currently a third-year law student at Angel Kanchev University of Ruse, and in 2020 he was nominated by the Faculty of Law for the Student of the Year award. In the same year he was elected to participate in the program “Young politicians in elected positions” of the European Committee of the Regions. On June 2 he was elected regional coordinator of GERB in place of Plamen Nunev. On April 4 he was the youngest candidate from all parties .
– Why did a young man decide to engage in politics, a rather dirty word in recent years?
– Politics should be constructive. It can provide solutions to important and urgent challenges and problems for a society. If a politician thinks in another direction, then his actions should not be equated with the overall concept of politics. My decision is a conscious and natural continuation of what I was actively involved in and liked as a student. At that time I was a member of the debate and public speaking club, the entrepreneurship club and I was part of the youth parliament of Ruse. I have participated in a number of European Parliament programs such as Euroscola and the European Youth Event and was elected President for one day in the Manager for a Day initiative. This was my first contact with the highest institutional levels. I gained invaluable experience, which I still use today.
– And why did you choose GERB at a time when everyone is against this party?
– I do not form my political views on the thoughts of another or on what is fashionable at the moment. GERB has emerged as the largest right-wing party, with a clear pro-European and pro-NATO orientation. This is the natural place for the development of young politicians who share these views. And now I want to contribute to building on the results already achieved.
– What was not done?
– Currently, the most important task is to do everything possible to bring Bulgaria closer to developed European countries both in terms of quality of life and income. Before the pandemic, GERB’s government had economic growth and financial stability. Now we need to do this at even higher speeds. My personal cause is to take concrete measures and decisions and to create conditions for young people to prefer to stay in Bulgaria.
“And why did you stay?”
– Because I love Bulgaria and I knew that a person can develop and find his way here. Interestingly, after I became a district coordinator, many of my classmates from all over the world called me to greet me and told me that they were hopeful that one day they too could find a good realization here, following my example. .
– And who invited you to be a regional coordinator?
– Personally, the chairman of the party, Mr. Boyko Borissov. We had a very thorough and constructive conversation. The young people and I personally are extremely grateful to him for the opportunities he has always given to the young people in the party.
– What do you expect from the elections on July 11?
– It will be difficult, but it seems that GERB will again be the first political force. Political revanchism cannot lead to something positive and constructive for Bulgaria and I think people understand that. We realize that being better than others is not enough, we must strive to be better than we were yesterday. That is why I am hopeful of the direction in which the party is heading and the changes that follow. I think people will appreciate that fact.
As for the Ruse region, the goal is to regain some of the people’s trust that we have lost and to be the first political force. We have strong personalities on our list who can be extremely useful in various fields and together we build a great team.
