Quebec added no deaths to its heavy toll on Sunday, while the number of COVID-19 cases reached minimums in both La Belle Province and Ontario.
With barely 179 new infections in 24 hours, Quebec has dropped back below 200 cases per day for the very first time since September 10, when at the time, we were just beginning to glimpse the second wave of COVID. -19.
As a bonus, the number of hospitalizations continued to melt under the heatwave with 274 Quebecers (-9) fighting the virus in hospitals in the province, including 61 bedridden in intensive care.
These encouraging results are timely as the last regions in the red zone, including Montreal and Laval, will turn orange on Monday. Other sectors will turn yellow or even green. The advancement of appointment dates for the second dose will also begin on Monday for those 80 and over.
“Quebec has recorded less than 200 cases as of yesterday. So far, the deconfinement plan is working. We must continue to follow the measures and get vaccinated, ”said the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé.
However, Quebec is not the only one to be able to boast of having been able to contain the third wave. Ontario, with 663 infections and 10 more deaths on Sunday, also greatly improved its data.
This is a marked improvement for the most populous province in the country, with the number of new cases now at its lowest since mid-October.
The province is not yet out of the woods, however, with just over 500 beds occupied by intensive care patients due to the virus, a number that is gradually decreasing.
Further west, Manitoba remained the province most affected by the virus per capita for the time being with 221 cases and three deaths. Manitoba had more cases than Quebec, despite a population six times smaller.
Saskatchewan (73 cases) and Alberta (231 cases) also updated their data.
On the eastern side, New Brunswick (3 cases), Nova Scotia (12 cases) and Newfoundland and Labrador (5 cases) have unveiled reports in line with those of the past few days.
