Microsoft has launched an automatic upgrade to Windows 10 21H1

As of May 18, the first major Windows 10 update in 2021 will be available to users Windows 10 May 2021 Update and moves the operating system to version 21H1. Even after a few weeks, the update is not available for all compatible computers, which is a common practice because Microsoft wants to avoid potential problems. Until recently, the update could only be installed manually through Windows Update. This option is available for Windows 10 in versions 20H2 and 2004. It seems that most computers can already be upgraded. So far, no serious bugs have appeared and the developers did not have to release a single so-called safeguard, ie a “stopwatch” for systems with certain hardware.-

From June, however, Microsoft slowly began the automatic installation of the May 2021 Update. On some Windows 10 version 2004 computers, the spring update was already installed automatically without having to confirm this option in Windows Update. Microsoft has announced on its website that this is the first update that will use machine learning. This is the first phase, which is focused primarily on the training of artificial intelligence. In the future, technology should ensure a more intelligent distribution of updates so that they reach users on time, but with a minimum of errors. This is because machine learning should make it easier to catch specific errors and stop distribution for certain configurations that are vulnerable to the error immediately after detection.

Machine learning has been involved in the distribution of Windows updates since 2016, but now the technology could receive major improvements and greater impact. Given that a number of cumulative updates from recent months have suffered from serious difficulties (e.g. broken printing or decrease in game performance), we can only hope that this technology will be successful. Windows 10 version 21H1 builds on last year’s version 20H2 (October 2021 Update), against which it brings only a minimal change. This is also one of the reasons why no serious problems have occurred so far and why the distribution is relatively fast (it often takes months for Microsoft to activate automatic updates). So far, the only known bug is the whistling sound when using the 5.1 configuration in combination with some applications and settings, but this problem is not specific to the 21H1 version.-

On the other hand, users have no chance to notice virtually any new features or improvements. Above all, this update seems to be paving the way for the biggest Windows update in recent years, which should be released this autumn. So far it is referred to as Sun Valley and will also bring major changes to the user interface.-
